About ACACSO

Advancing Car Hire and Car Service Through Collaboration

Our Purpose

The Association of Car Accounting and Car Service Officers (ACACSO) provides a forum for transportation professionals to collaborate, share knowledge, and discuss issues related to car service and equipment accounting. Through open dialogue and industry engagement, the association promotes sound practices that support efficiency, accuracy, and consistency across the rail network.

Our History

ACACSO was established to promote consistent understanding and practical application of car service and equipment accounting practices within the railroad industry. Over time, the association has brought together professionals from across the industry to share experience, discuss emerging issues, and support a broader understanding of applicable rules and standards.

ACACSO’s annual conference is a key part of this mission, providing a forum where members can exchange ideas, collaborate on industry challenges, and gain insight from peers working in this specialized field.

Objectives

The objectives of ACACSO, as stated in the association’s by-laws, include:
Promulgating rules, methods, and best practices for improving the handling of railroad freight cars, trailers, and containers
Supporting accurate and consistent maintenance of car service and equipment accounting record
Providing a professional forum for discussion of car service and accounting issues
Facilitating the exchange of experience and practical insight among industry professionals
Contributing to the ongoing understanding and application of industry rules and standards

Relationship to AAR and Circular OT-10

The official car accounting and car service rules of Circular OT-10 are created and published by the Association of American Railroads (AAR). ACACSO does not publish or administer these rules.

However, historically, many provisions and interpretations of Circular OT-10 originated as discussion topics within ACACSO. Through open dialogue at conferences and ongoing collaboration among members, the association has long served as an important forum for exploring practical challenges and considerations related to these rules.
